About Us
On January 8, 2006--the 50th anniversary of the death of Jim Elliott & four other missionaries in Ecuador (maybe you saw The End of the Spear)--my wife (Misti) and I resigned from our jobs and sold what we had to go back into missions full-time. We, along with our then-three year old daughter (Grace) joined YWAM (Yout With A Mission), the largest mission organization in the world.
We were planning to spend the winter at the YWAM base in Fairbanks, Alaska, then continue on in training at other bases internationally in preparation to open the first base of ministry for YWAM in the state of West Virginia. However, by spring we felt God moving us to remain in the Arctic, as we transitioned from YWAM to Joel's Place, a youth center in Fairbanks which houses the northernmost indoor skate/BMX ramp park in the world, and the only one in the state.
We work there now, and are missions pastors at The Well, the church that meets at Joel's Place on the weekends. We are also both teaching at Fairhill Christian School (where Gracie is in pre-K). Misti teaches a Kindergarten class and I teach High School World History & Speech. This year Grace turned 4, Misti & I turned 31 & 30, and we celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. It's cool that we ended up embarking on our new journey on January 8th, and we'll return to Alaska once again on January 8th, 2007 after a one-month furlough back in North Carolina.
Jim Elliott's prayer was for a full life, moreso than a long one, and he said "He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose."
